In brief:
- Callum Morton's installation Valhalla, first shown at the 2007 Venice Biennale, is currently on view at the National Gallery of Victoria as part of the Melbourne Festival. Speaking about the new home for the work, Morton told The Age: ''I love it against the Roy Grounds (the NGV); that was a big thing for me. I'm a big fan of that block-work versus block-work. But now it's an object on a box, whereas before it was an environment that grew into its site ... Context is everything.''

AbaF names national philanthropy award winners
Brisbane gallerist Philip Bacon has been awarded the Goldman Sachs JBWere Philanthropy Leadership Award, presented annually by the Australian Business Arts Foundation to a leader who has encouraged increased giving to Australian cultural life. From the funds Bacon donated to the Queensland Art Gallery in 2008, the gallery has acquired its first Eugene Von Guerard, and more recently George Lambert's Self Portrait with Ambrose Patterson, Amy Lambert and Hugh Ramsay. Major gifts of works of art to the gallery's collection include Matthew Smith's Tulips, and the major 1966 Brett Whiteley Calcutta. He has also supported cultural organisations outside of the visual arts including the Brisbane Powerhouse, the Queensland Theatre Company, the Brisbane Festival and Opera Queensland.
''I truly believe art matters,'' Bacon said, ''and I am privileged that I can help in ways both big and small to encourage and develop the companies and the people that make it happen.''
Also winning a national award was National Gallery of Australia benefactor and council member Kerry Stokes, who was awarded the Richard Pratt Business Arts Leadership Award. Stokes was also recognized for generously loaning artworks from his collection of over 8,000 items to institutions such as the Museum of Sydney, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Heide Museum of Modern Art and TarraWarra Museum of Art.
